Cloudflare Artifacts Is Git Storage for Apps That Create Repos on Demand

ZKO blog tile: Web

Cloudflare has put Artifacts into open beta for Workers Paid customers. It describes it as a versioned filesystem that speaks Git and can scale to millions of repositories, which is a clue to who it is for: products that create a repository per user, per project or per agent run.

The new features are useful. You can connect a repository to Workers so that pushes to production deploy automatically while other branches get preview environments. A Workers binding lets code fork repositories, read files and issue tokens. Event subscriptions react to creates, pushes and deletes, and you can choose US or EU data storage when you create a namespace.

Two dates matter. Billing begins on 15 October 2026, based on repository operations and data storage, and Cloudflare's contest for building the next Git platform on Workers and Artifacts closes on 14 October. First prize is $25,000 in credits.

Our take: Git as a storage layer is a smart choice, because history, branching and diffs come free, and they are exactly what you want when an AI agent edits files on a user's behalf. You get an audit trail without building one.

If you are curious, try it on a throwaway project this week and look at the billing page before you leave anything running.
