NVIDIA's RTX Video Nodes in ComfyUI: Try SDR to HDR First, Frame Generation Last

ZKO blog tile: Motion

ComfyUI has released NVIDIA's RTX video tools as custom nodes that run locally. There are three: Video Super Resolution at up to 4x, Frame Generation that raises the frame rate by 2x to 16x, and SDR to HDR conversion. They need an NVIDIA RTX GPU, and Frame Generation needs an RTX 40 Series card or newer. Comfy Desktop is free, while cloud use needs a paid subscription from $192 a year.

Our take is about order. Start with upscaling, because rescuing a render that was delivered a size too small is a real, common problem, and it is easy to judge by eye. Try SDR to HDR second, with the caution that converting a graded image is a new grade, so it needs a colourist's eye rather than a default.

Leave Frame Generation until last. Inventing frames is fine for slow camera moves and risky for fast motion, fine detail or anything with text, where artefacts show up as shimmer. Putting 24 frames a second through a 16x multiplier is not a fix for a poor animation.

Used with judgement, local nodes mean no upload, no queue and no per-minute bill. That alone makes them worth a test.
