GPT-6 Brings Intelligent UI to ChatGPT, Where Answers Become Buttons and Calculators

ZKO blog tile: AI

OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 with a feature called Intelligent UI in ChatGPT on 7 October 2026. Instead of returning only text, the model can compose a response from text, visuals and interactive elements, such as charts, buttons, forms, calculators and diagrams, and it decides when a visual helps.

Paid plans got it first, with Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise using GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go users followed on 8 October with GPT-6 Luna. Enterprise access depends on workplace admin settings.

OpenAI describes everyday examples such as a bill splitter or a calculator built into the answer. A comparison can appear side by side, and plain text is still used when it fits best. The company also claims GPT-6 Instant starts answering questions that need web search about 44 percent sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. That is OpenAI's own figure.

There are limits. Intelligent UI works from Instant through Extra High reasoning, but not with the Pro reasoning option, which uses GPT-6 Astra, and not in Voice or the Work tab. Users can switch to a simpler style in Settings, though some visual elements may still appear.

For anyone who designs interfaces, the interesting part is that the layout is generated per answer. That raises a question we think every design team will face: who owns consistency when the interface is built on the fly? A fixed design system gives you predictable spacing, labels and states. A model choosing its own widgets gives you flexibility and a lot of variation.

Our reading is that this works best for small, disposable tasks, like splitting a bill, and less well for anything a person will repeat. For repeated tasks, we would still design the screen and let the AI fill it in.

The toggle for a simpler style is a good sign. It admits that not everyone wants an answer to be an app.
