Marriott Doesn't Rebrief Us Every Conference, and That's the Point

Marriott International exhibition stand built by ZKO for a hospitality conference

Most of what we have written about Marriott so far has been the Four Points Flex tool, the React Native and Three.js app that lets Marriott show hotel owners how a property converts to the Four Points brand. That is one piece of a much larger relationship. The other side is physical: the stands and spaces we build for Marriott at hospitality conferences through the year, including FHS and the brand's own hosted events in Berlin.

Conference exhibition work is a different discipline from a web app, even when it comes from the same client relationship. A stand has to be designed, approved, built, shipped, assembled on site, staffed for three or four days, then struck and stored or scrapped, all against a fixed date that does not move for anyone. There is no patch release if a panel does not fit through a venue door.

What makes the Marriott brief distinct is how much repeat business depends on us behaving less like an outside agency and more like an extension of Marriott's own events team. We know which venues have tight loading bay hours, which local contractors we trust to assemble on a tight turnaround, and which brand guidelines are firm versus which ones bend for a specific market. That institutional memory, carried across each event rather than rebuilt from a brief each time, is most of what we are actually selling.

The Berlin work adds a wrinkle the FHS conference circuit does not: those are Marriott's own hosted moments, not a shared trade show floor, so the bar for a space that feels distinctly Marriott, rather than generically corporate, is higher. We lean on the same brand assets Marriott uses across its wider portfolio, but the room has to hold its own without a hundred other exhibitors around it for contrast.

Digital tools like Four Points Flex get most of the attention because they are easy to demo. The exhibition work is quieter, but it is the larger and steadier part of what keeps Marriott coming back to us conference after conference.
