Plasticity 2026.2 Adds Asset Libraries, Curvature Analysis and Surface Continuity Constraints

Plasticity 2026.2 landed on 20 October 2026. Plasticity is the lightweight NURBS modeller from Plastic Software, pitched as CAD for artists, and this release leans on tools for checking and reusing surfaces rather than flashy new modelling.

The new Assets system groups model components into reusable libraries that can be shared with collaborators. Assets are dragged into the viewport from a new Assets tab in the Outliner. For anyone who models the same fixings, handles or product details repeatedly, that is a sensible time saver.

A Curvature Analysis shader offers Gaussian, Mean and Max modes, so you can see problem areas in a surface before thickening or offsetting it. That is the kind of check that catches trouble before it becomes a failed boolean three steps later. There is also a Project Align command, which aligns the control vertices along a target surface's edge to a reference surface, using a vector direction or the surface normal. About 15 existing commands were updated too, including Edge Align and Vertex Align, and meshes, images and instances now import from native .plasticity scene files.

The Studio edition gains a surfacing constraints system that preserves G0, G1 or G2 continuity across connected edges and surfaces while you transform them. This is the feature that matters for hard-surface product work, where a highlight that breaks across a seam shows up instantly in a render.

Pricing is $175 for Indie, which is perpetual and node-locked, and $299 for Studio, which adds support for more CAD file formats and the xNURBS surfacing toolset. It runs on Windows 10 or later, Ubuntu 22.04 or later and macOS 12.0 or later.

We model product shapes for renders and animation, so a modeller that is quick and strong on surface quality is worth watching. We would start with the curvature shader on an existing model to see what it flags.
