Redshift 2027.0 Adds Fur Objects, ACES 2 and a Faster Time to First Pixel

Maxon released Redshift 2027.0 on 18 October 2026, also labelled Redshift 2026.10 in the release notes. It is a broad update to the GPU renderer, covering 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Houdini and Maya, and the headline items are worth a look if you render product or interior work.

The biggest addition is a new Fur Object procedural for hair, fur and grass. ACES 2 colour management is also supported, and the ACES 2 OCIO config is now the default in Cinema 4D, while Houdini and Maya users can set it manually. For anyone matching renders to filmed footage, a sensible default colour pipeline saves a surprising amount of grief.

Maxon has also reworked memory management to reduce the time to first pixel, and says render times drop by up to 15 percent. CG Channel notes that the figure is tied to one architectural scene, so treat it as a best case and test your own files.

Redshift Live, the real-time engine that replaced Redshift RT earlier in 2026, gains ray traced depth of field, refraction through transparent materials (not dispersion) and light spread. Volumetrics, hair and point clouds are still unsupported there, so it remains a look development and review tool rather than a final frame renderer.

Host updates are the long tail. Cinema 4D gets an Auto Focus Distance setting, overhauled shader balls and hex and triplanar tiling options in the Material Tag, which help with the texture repetition that large surfaces tend to show. 3ds Max gains native support for tyFlow Inferno fire and smoke. ArchiCAD now has official Redshift support, following Vectorworks and Revit. Support for NVIDIA's RTX Spark laptop and mobile workstation chip is included too.

Pricing is rental only, at $49 a month or $289 a year. Redshift's full change list sits on its forum behind a login, so we have linked CG Channel's write-up and the Redshift product page instead.
