Samsung Internet Just Turned Comet Into an OS Feature

Perplexity has folded its Comet features, ask in page, cross tab context, task execution, straight into Samsung Internet on the Galaxy S26. Perplexity is also offered as an optional default search engine on the phone. That is not another Comet app launch. It is Comet becoming a browser feature that ships on the device itself.

The distinction matters more than it sounds. A standalone AI browser needs someone to find it, install it, and set it as default. A feature built into the browser that already ships on one of the world's best selling Android phones needs none of that. It is simply there the day the phone is switched on.

That is the real threat to Chrome and Safari. Google and Apple can bolt AI features onto their own browsers whenever they choose. What they cannot do overnight is match an agent that arrives pre installed, already wired into search, on hundreds of millions of Galaxy devices.

We think the AI browser story has been told wrong for a year. It was never going to be won by a new app fighting Chrome for install share and default status. It was going to be won by whoever got their agent built into a browser people already had, with zero extra steps. Samsung and Perplexity just proved the model, and it is a bigger deal for the browser market than any Comet relaunch could be.
