Designing Exhibition Stands That Have to Work in a Different City Every Time

Most of our 3D and motion work lives permanently online. Exhibition stand design does not get that luxury. A stand we design for Hisense or Maserati gets built once, stands for a few days, gets dismantled, and then has to go up again somewhere else entirely, sometimes on a different continent, with a different crew and a different venue shape.
Hisense's activation around the FIFA World Cup is a good example of what that constraint means in practice. The relationship ran across four years and multiple cities, including Berlin, New York and locations in Saudi Arabia, which meant the design could never assume a fixed footprint or a familiar hall. We designed modular systems that could compress or expand depending on the space available, while keeping the branding and the visitor journey consistent from one activation to the next.
That same modular thinking shows up in the hospitality systems we have built for events like IHIF and FHS Dubai, where clients need a stand that can be reconfigured for a boutique conference room one month and a full convention hall the next. The brief is rarely "design a stand." It is closer to "design a kit of parts that always looks intentional, no matter how it gets assembled."
Working with brands like Virgin Media, Samsung and Maserati at events such as Goodwood Festival of Speed has reinforced a simple rule: the render has to survive contact with an actual build crew. A stand that only works in a perfect 3D visualisation is not a finished design, it is a promise the build team then has to keep under time pressure. We test our stand designs against real material tolerances and real assembly timelines before a client ever sees the final render, because the version that gets approved is the version that has to go up in a marquee three months later.
It is a different discipline from web or product 3D work, where the deliverable can stay soft and adjustable indefinitely. An exhibition stand has a hard deadline and a physical outcome, and that changes how carefully you have to think before you commit a design to render.
