Scan First, Render Second: Our Workflow for Interior Visualisation

Our interior visualisation work covers everything from a floating waterside new-build to a twenty thousand square foot garden centre, and the projects that go smoothly all share the same first step: we scan the site before we design anything.

For The Hive, a garden centre concept we worked on, that meant drone area scanning across the full site before a single 3D layout decision was made. Once we had accurate spatial data, the design and branding work that followed was grounded in the real dimensions and sightlines of the actual plot, rather than an idealised footprint that would need correcting once construction started. The same logic applies at a smaller scale: interior scans of existing structures give us real measurements to design against, so a proposed layout is a genuine option rather than a best guess.

Pre-viz films are the other half of this workflow, and they solve a different problem: selling a space before it exists. For a waterside container-style new-build, we produced pre-viz films specifically to give prospective buyers a walkthrough of the finished interior ahead of the physical build being complete. That kind of film only works if it is honest about materials, light and scale, which is why it starts from scanned or accurately modelled geometry rather than an artist's impression built for maximum drama.

Container and adaptive reuse conversions add their own constraint: the shell already exists, so the render has to work within genuine structural limits rather than an open brief. Scanning the existing structure first means the interior design proposals we produce are things that can actually be built inside that shell, not concepts that fall apart the moment a contractor gets involved.

None of this is about making renders look more impressive. It is about making sure the render a client falls in love with is also the one their build team can actually deliver.
